Kidney disease, or chronic kidney failure, is the gradual loss of kidney function. Our kidneys filter fluids and waste from our bloodstream, which are then removed from our bodies in our urine. When not functioning properly, dangerous levels of waste build up in the body.
There are several symptoms of kidney issues. Signs of kidney disease could slowly develop over time. Some include the following.
Bloody Urine
Bloody, foamy, or dark urine could be a sign of kidney problems. Excessive bubbles in urine are caused by too much protein. This could also be accompanied by a change in the frequency of urination. Damaged kidneys can cause an increase in the need to urinate.
Frequent Nausea
Early morning nausea and vomiting are often reported as a symptom of kidney disease. Another common symptom is feeling nauseated all day, along with a bitter and metallic taste in your mouth.
Dry and Itchy Skin
Damaged kidneys are unable to filter out waste products and can’t maintain the proper balance of minerals in the body. This could lead to dry, itchy skin. This could be due to mineral and bone disease as well, which often accompanies kidney disease.
Muscle Cramps
Muscle cramps can be caused by electrolyte imbalances that are often associated with kidney problems.
Consult Your Doctor
Dark or discolored foamy urine could be a warning sign of kidney disease. Frequent nausea, itchy skin, and muscle cramps are also signs that your kidneys aren’t functioning properly. If you experience one or more of these conditions, it’s recommended that you speak to your doctor. Only a healthcare professional can determine if you have kidney disease.
